Flax Seed Puffy Pancakes
So you've successfully made it through your detoxification/cleansing program and now it's time to start eating solid foods again! Ease into it...believe me! I've had the painful experience of devouring steak with gusto, washing it down with a shot of tequila, and feeling the pain. The whole purpose of the cleanse is to change your everyday habits and to improve your health. Don't waste the hard work you did. Plan your meals ahead of time. Start with easily digestible soups, broths, steamed veggies, maybe some baked whitefish. Porridge from oatmeal or a bowl of warm brown rice or quinoa can be nice too.
Here's my favorite "post-cleanse" breakfast. I got the recipe from Gittleman's book, the Fast Track One Day Detox. The book is excellent by the way!
- 1-2 Tbsp pure water
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp shredded apple or mashed banana
- 3 Tbsp freshly ground flaxseeds
- 1 tsp Stevia plus (optional)
- dash of cinnamon
- pat of organic butter or coconut oil
Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl. Melt a little butter or coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and cook until the bottom is solid enough to flip. Carefully flip the flax pancake, and cook until done (about 1 more minute). Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!

Hi Sylvie,
Here are the flax crackers that were my staple food during my candida cleanse. Thanks as always for your nutrition advice!

My Raw Flax Crackers
6 Tbsp flax seeds - soak 6 hours+
1 cup water
1 Tbsp tamari or Bragg's
Soak 6 Tbsp flax seeds in 1 cup of water for 6-12 hours. Add 1 Tbsp soy sauce or Bragg's (can also add herbs and spices). Blend for 1-3 minutes, until seeds crack open and you see some of the yellow insides of the seeds; the mixture will be goopey.
If you don't have a dehydrator, grease a baking sheet with butter. Pour the mixture onto the baking sheet and spread it out as much as you can. Put the baking sheet on top of a radiator, or in a gas oven (just the pilot light should be enough), or a couple feet above a wood stove (not in direct contact with stove). Dehydrate for 12-36 hours until crispy. Enjoy!
